Don’t Be Afraid to Say No

think.jpgAt some point in your search for a home you will have to say NO.

That can happen in a number of situations:

  • deciding to make an offer
  • responding to a counter offer, and
  • moving ahead after the inspection

are just a few decision points when this word can take on a very valuable meaning. Use it when it makes sense. Don’t be afraid.

An example –  I am working with some new buyers and we saw a bunch of homes this week. One, in particular, was attractive given the large size, newness and price. It is a foreclosure (more on that later) so pricing is pretty appealing. They spent 20 minutes looking at it, then we were back for a second, and much longer, visit. After much deliberation, they decided to pass (NO!). It would likely be a little bit of a stretch to get it, despite the price, so it makes sense to not move ahead. There will be something else down the road.

It’s great to get excited with your home search, especially when you find something you really like. Just don’t let your excitement get in the way of saying NO, if that is what you should do.
